*** Creature Painting Contest Winner Announcement ***
Kudos to all of you who showed off your paint skills in our Creature Painting Contest! This was one of our biggest contests ever, with nearly 400 entries to choose from, and as is always the case, it was a tough task for us to pick a winner.
There was something about this year's first-place entry that completely fascinated us here at Stan Winston School, not just the subtly realistic paint job, but the overall emotional effect, combining both Zen calm and a warrior's spirit. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the 2020 Creature Painting Contest winner: "SEIZA 1/4 scale Ape" by Velayos!
As Velayos shared along with his submission: "This piece is very special for me since it has been a lot of work and reflection and feeling. This piece is about... aspiring to be better, far from lights and sound, far from the empty world of the modern human. SEIZA means 'sitting correctly' and implies self-control, focus, and recognition of the here and now. In Seiza there are no lights or sounds, there are no empty dreams or smoke. Only the real world ... and us."
At its finest, art can go beyond mere entertainment, and make you think about the world and your place in it. Velayos, this is what you have achieved with this piece. Congratulations on winning the Grand Prize - Sponsored by our friends at Createx and Iwata!
