Dental Acrylic vs. Dental Porcelain?
in Lab work
I'm going to put realist fangs in my Wolfman display piece (see my Wolfman WIP thread).
I've been researching the process and was wondering if anyone is familiar enough with the medium to tell me the difference between Dental Acrylic and Dental Porcelain.
I want them to look as real as possible.
Thanks 👍

The difference is the material. Dental acrylic is a semi-translucent plastic, whereas dental porcelain is a fired stoneware.

Porcelain is primarily used for non-aesthetic reasons that don't really apply to effects work, like biocompatibility, durability, stain resistance, ease of cleaning, etc. You can learn a bit more about that here:

I've never worked with dental porcelain, but dental acrylic is extremely common in the special effects world as it's easy to work with, has nice mechanical properties (durable, easy to shape/sand/polish, etc), and looks great.

One of my favorite courses!
My very first time making teeth. I used some dental wax for gums. Very satisfying process.
