Still haven't attached the neck, but wanted to try the tissue paper and latex. This works great for this type of character. Overdoing it a touch, but I like the way it looks.
Will house paint primer in a can work as a base on this? How can I take the shine off? Baby powdering before I paint doesn't seem the smartest thing...

Hey James,

Why are you worried about the shine if you are sealing it? I wouldn't baby powder it as it'll create a mess and might create a texture you might not want on the finished product. Why don't you use the latex you used to attach the tissue paper and brush a layer over the whole head? Even if it has a sheen you'll be painting over it after anyway.

Hey Troy, Nice! I recommend not using the same pattern side by side as your eye will pick up the repeating pattern. You could do smaller sized stencils and then spray them randomly. You probably already knew that though, but just wanted to put it out there in case you didn't.

Troy, I like the pattern. Looks like it will work nicely.

Here is the texturing so far. Still have to attach the neck, but honestly, I'm a bit scared of that. Its supposed to fit on me, and the mannequin isn't exactly my size nor has my length of neck (no one does) so I'm worried it'll not end up just right...  Anywho, here is the work so far. Head and hands getting textured.

I think I want my painting to look similiar to this squid. I am very intimidated by painting though. Could you guys give me some tips on how I would paint something like this?

Arnold at Monster Makers mentioned using silicone paint on foam latex to get a wet look. Anyone done that?

Aquas, oranges and pearl, then spatter it with brown.

Paint texture finals (office wanted to see a sample of the final) with eyelashes.

Aauugh! The head is way too big! Why didn't I see this? Oh well it'll give me a chance to improve it so it doesn't look like a giant condom.

Doesn't look like I got a lot accomplished but all the work was done "under the hood". I canvased the bottom bracing to the bottom half of the suit. I also attached the fast clips and sanded all the foam edges and seams for spandex. Tonight I started the spandex process. Whew! Should be done spandex process tomorrow.

I know it's not the best angles and lighting, but I think he looks pretty good so far. His resin eyes are hand painted.

Well, here's what I managed to get done. I was hoping to have caught up a bit more by now. Next week will be crazy.

The hands are still just a pile of sticks right now, but they're ready for assembly.

The under structure is L200, from some playmats. But the glue wouldn't bond properly with the foam, it just peeled away under pressure, so I had to tape it down to try hold it. I got some stuff called solvent cement now which might be better.

Eyes and mouth mech all done and just need to be hooked up to my trigger. Went to a Jurrasic experience show this weekend to see foam latex animatronics. Amateur stuff. Paint jobs were total crap
