Second Post is of my second characte after playing with him for a bit kinda decided on the starters of a tribal esque them or i hope it will be my characters a blind amphibian who has bonded with the skeletal remains of a fallen humanoid and the remains allow for him to tap into mystical or spiritual properties.. still early on however
Second progress update for my first character. All of his major forms have been blocked in! I feel he's ready for detailing and texturing now!
However, my other character is not progressing as well. I'm struggling with artists block and I can't decide which direction to push my design. Right now my second character is an unreadable mass of clay that isn't worth being posted on here. I will post a photo of him/her as soon as I resolve the character's design. Apologies in advance.
Sorry for my close-to-the-wire responses. I wanted to spend a lot more time on these, but we had company related to buying a house this entire week. I have enough discarded contract papers to make a papier mache life-sized Ent at this point.
Here's Jimmy. I'm not sure much about him, except he is aquatic and a plant-eater. My suspicion would be a smaller life-form found in small still or tidal pools, due to the lack of large predators and the ease of camouflage as a plant.
This is my first model, edited of course. Made the face a little more symmetrical, and also added some more detail to the dorsal fin. Let me know what you think.
Here is my attempt at a second sculpt. I'm not to happy with how it turned out, because my first attempt had to be reworked because i felt i was using too much sculpy, and seemed like too big of a project for my second attempt. Please give me some advice/help on how to improve it.
This is my first character updated. I think I got to the point of detailing. I tried to get all the improvements suggested by Casey. Any comments and critiques are very wellcome!! Gustavo
ok guys here's my first piece didn't change much just added detail. added a filter over the photo because of crappy lighting so you can actually see the detail. also I didn't get to the back of the sculpture as I was rushing to get to the second piece.
heres my second piece not really happy with the outcome I didn't have much time to work on him because I spent most of it working on the other piece. I started him yesterday but I guess I was going for a demon type character
Hi! here is my first character, I work on Casey comments bigger horns, ears and jaw, i put more detail on the muscles skin texture, veins etc, also I still have to work on the teeth and the back of the horns
Here my second one, it is on a very early stage cause I only have one day to work on it, and still not very convinced with the result, I only been working on one half of the sculpture and need more time to define organic shapes, I began to give some wrinkles to see were it goes...but well, it is an Humanoid Alien mixed whit some kind of insect or fly...
I re-worked her brows and adjusted her facial structure.
I added teeth, gums and lip suggestions.
Her eye structure has changed and I've refined her jaw and added detail.
After adjusting her back posture slightly in relation to shoulders and head I added big fins to the back of her head, but not all the way down her neck as suggested by Casey.
Also as suggested by Casey I have taken out the old neck structure and replaced it with a new one, complete with wrinkles around the neck and back of the neck. I've also added wrinkles that suggest blood delivery.
The front amour plating was revised and I changed the positioning of the horn foundations on the skull. I also added a suggestive part for the shoulders and scapula.
I've reshaped the curve on the top horns, it is much closer now to my original drawing. The horns are proving tricky to get smoothed out however...
I've still work to do, my detailing skills need work!
Well, here is my homework regarding week two's sculpt.
He is, for the most part... a happy frog. (Please see happy pose reference in my drawing ideas)
A bug flew into his a*s and he quickly became angry frog (aka 'wtf' frog)
I'm trying not to, but dragon influences are starting to seep their way in this design.
I like where he is going. He's rough with most of the major forms in place, bar is tongue!
I've tried to keep him as dynamic as possible for now. He's come on well considering the original drawing ideas. I would have liked to have gone more 'horror' on this one, but I think he's
Well another week has gone by and I have another unfinished unresolved sculpt to post. It's still a bit rough around the edges and I'm really looking forward to the demo on detailing. Anyway, this weeks sculpt is kind of a Goblin inspired by a shark, bird and a toad...although at this point the only thing I can see is the shark....
Just popping in to see how the sculpting is coming along. I did could not squeeze out free time from my work schedule this week to photoshop, as you can imagine it would take some time to go through everyone stuff and change it around and make notes and my schedule just didn't permit this week--so I am very sorry for that! However, I am seeing some great progress by everyone!!! I am excited to go forward in tomorrows class showing, clean up, form adjustment and then detailing techniques with lots of tricks and tips. ---so get ready and crunch away on your works till then!
This week was just a bit too much on my plate. By the time I sat with this one and tried to start the 2nd one I was beyond frustration. Moving from Chavant back to Super Sculpey was not pleasant for me.
Tried to reconfigure the face on the 1st one. Not really into details yet. Will try again on the 2nd one tonight after relaxing with a drink or 2.
I made this character on a scale much smaller than the first, and my clay is really soft, it didn't help the process, so I am presenting so late.
While thinking about this character, I envisioned for this guy, the appearance of leaf insect and that leaf painting with fungi. Starting with this mental image, I followed with the design, adding further details and styling.

Here's Kitsune, tweaked a bit.

Very nice I can see him with the moss on him so he can blend in.
Can wait to see it finished.
