Hello Casey! Hi everyone! Here is an update of the first character, it is the work in progress of all your comments, I began to work one ear, bigger horns and more detailed, I change the tongue from 3 to 1 tip because I think it is a little confusing, and began to establish and detail the teeth, but got some problems to work the size and put rigth in place without deform and blend them, I think Before put them in place I will bake them.. Also I detail more the muscles and wrinkles...thanks for all your comments!!!

This is the updated version of my first creature. I'm much happier with him now after taking some of Casey's advice. I haven't named him yet, but he's the dorky kid on his marshy planet of amphibian-like, intelligent beings.

Here is my second creature. I had a lot of difficulty coming up with another idea after completing my first maquette. I'm not as happy with this one yet. I was originally going for a spider-like creature; now I'm not so sure of what he is. I'm looking forward to hearing Casey's ideas for improving the design.

Hey guys awesome job so far---love what I am seeing from everyone!!! Im still trying to free up some time for photoshop critique, my schedule is just nuts right now....lol!!!

We will be going over tons of detailing techniques in class this weekend plus I will talk about detailing in other types of clays and so I would like everyone to choose their favorite sculpture of the two and try to push forward on it as much as possible, work the forms and character as much as possible and get ready to learn tons of detail techniques and other stuff----in the mean time I will attempt to photoshop some critiques, however if you have questions pop them up here and Ill get back to you quickly!!!!:)

Here's the updated first sculpt, kinda went more into a dragon-like direction now. I'm sorry for the blurry side-views, my camera just doesn't focus most of the time and the light is a bit too dark here.

And here's the second one, my first though was "sea creature!" but then I didn't want to do a sea creature (I drew way too many of them in the last time) but in the end it turned into a sea creature anyways...

So my sculpture Bruce, now looks more like a dragon, less like a bat, but I'm digging it. I added some texture, but after I realized that I have such a heavy hand and that the texture was too much I softened it down a lot. Do you all think I need to soften it down some more? Take some of the texture away? I'm pretty happy with him. Who would have thought he'd look so different when I finished.

Hey guys here is where I am at on my Alien Kaleo. I am still pushing the forms a bit and I have to tone down a lot of the muscle/vein things still. And i am going to spend some more time on the face before class to get some more character. I am really liking it so far I just wish I had more time to sculpt. Unfortunately I haven't started a second sculpt yet but I'm going to jump on it this week as well. Everyone's stuff is looking awesome, thanks again for the inspiration.

Hey Casey and All,

I did not get too much farther on my first sculpt of the Zumari. I did add the scarification over one eye, worked out the cut off lips, filled in the cheeks a bit and got rid of some of the "zombi-esque" wrinkles around the mouth. I know what I still need to do with him, and hope to complete him soon. Here he is :

I think the fact that I feel in love with my second sculpt had a lot to do with not giving the Zumari sculpt as much love this week. My second sculpt is a character called Girah, again from my property Monsterwood. Girah is a grandmotherly monster to own of the main protaginsts, a 16 year old boy. She is patient, sharp as tack,peaceful, but tenacious. She is the matriarch of the rebel clan.

As far as the sculpt goes, she still needs a bunch of work. Mostly detail work and texturing.The little whiskers are just blob place holders for where I will sculpt the real thing soon.

I am having a harder time this week. That second sculpt is fighting with me to take shape. I made several attempts at it and keep cutting parts off and restarting. Sooner or later it will come together, it just might take more time is all.
