Goblin Beast- Halloween costume contest
Hello! I’ve always wanted to enter one of these, and this year I finally got the opportunity. So here goes!-
This guy kind of just came to be, I really didn’t have an idea in mind, outside of just “fantasy creature”. I’ve been lovingly coining his as “ goblin cat beast” or “ beast dude” haha
Everything( except for the boots) was made by me. He is an amalgamation of various molds I’ve created over the past year or two from previous projects ( some which I never got a chance to finish). He started off as me casting a fresh cast of the mask, but quickly realized that he needed to be much more and set to work.
I hand sculpted the face, hands, and chest with monster makers clay. Molded with epoxy fiberglass. I then cast each piece out of platinum silicone. Face is ecoflex 20, the body and hands are dragonskin 20. Painted them with psycho paint.
I pressed a thin fabric into the silicone as it was curing, so I could hand sew it to various fabrics. That way I didn’t have to rely on silpoxy alone. I also really wanted the breathability of using fabric.
Since I only cast the front of the face out of silicone, the back half was spandex fabric with elastic bands to keep it snug to my face.
The hands I intergraded the silicone scales top into fabric gloves I patterned and sewed. I then airbrushed the fabric as close as I could to the silicone scales.
Claws are epoxy resin that glow under uv light!
The fur parts are a mixture of faux fur and National Fiber Technologies. I’d try to utilize as much of the NFT as I could. The little scraps I had left over I’d cut from its backing and I’d hand punch the strands along the edge of the mask, chin, and the chest of the bodysuit. Which I oddly found really fun!!
The pants I made out of linen and leather. I made the pattern on a duct tape dummy of my self. Wanted something functional but also incorporated the creatures form. Hence the tail flap in the back.
The tail is a long thin silicone piece I cast, then created a base so I could wear it with a belt. I then hand sewed the fabric and nft around it. The motion is incredibly lifelike
Think that’s it! Frankly this site has helped me SO much in making this guy possible! I learned so much from all the various classes I couldn’t have done it without it. Thank you for all that you guys do! And thank you for the opportunity!!
