Carnival row costumes

  • From concept to completion took 6 months for both costumes.  I did everything from hand printing the shirt fabric, digitally designed the prints for the ruffles in the skirt. Crochet lace, shuttle lace and bobbin lace. Spun the wool for the hat, shawl and socks from the cashmere fleece from my goats. Wrote the patterns for those myself.  All trims made by hand. Made the horns, hooves and wings. Hand beaded the applique for the jacket. Made the bag. Made literally every single thing from scratch.
  • I will just take a knee and ask humbly for any link you have to offer me on a build thread. I am in awe. I swear the talent level this year is insane. I saw several pro level costumes already and still you shock me with your skill level.

Ngila Dickson and Penny Rose would both be proud of this level of work. Wrought by hand, from scratch to match not only the look of Carnival Row but the aesthetic worthy of ultra closeups.

    Bravo.

Any more typing on my part and it's just total fan boy mumbling.

Ok, I might have just cried reading that. Honestly,  I have put my entire heart and soul into these two costumes, slept very little and been hand sewing or beading in bed most nights.
I needed to know that I could do all of it, everything.  Having so many different skills pushed to breaking point was probably not my brightest idea I have ever had, but I really am a sucker for punishment.

I think my next project might be curing the insomnia I now have 🤣🤣🤣
  • I do have 6 work books cataloguing the build processes for each costume, knit, crochet and lacework patterns too, not that many people will want the shuttle lace patterns for the cuffs and hat topper on the Fae costume, but I wrote them just incase.

  • I hate to add any more work on top of all that but a build thread would be very much appreciated by a lot of folks. I post here and on therpf where many many people would love to see your how to process. Not monetized at all so you might be better served on one of the other channels. But I personally invite you to share on therpf even if it is a light dusting of text. Over there, I am greenmachines. But no stress if you don't, it has been a pleasure to see your work here.
  • I will definitely have a look at posting the builds on there, once I get my breath back.
Thank you for such lovely kind words.
