I wanted to create something that would evoke emotions of disgust, terror, delight and hopefully humor. Living in NYC, I’m always haunted by the prospect of running into a giant cockroach. So rather than continue living in fear, I wanted to create one I could love. My deepest need in fabricating this costume was that the legs needed to move and be puppeted from the inside. I used a simple trigger mechanism and metal hinges for durability. All of this build came from a very tight budget with limited resources.Â
Fabrication process video above along with a few other clips of Roachelle scurrying and dancing around NYC. Hope you all enjoy this giant cockroach as much as I do : )

The stage performance was hilarious. You definitely already won Halloween.
"Waiter, there is a roach on my table."Â
Waiter: "Do I look like pest control? You have to tip the roach or the dancing just continues."
