Dimetrodon by Josh Ballze

Dimetrodon hunting a prehistoric shark, Xenacanthus from a fossil find I believe in Texas where they found remains of the shark with Dimetrodon teeth everywhere suggesting predation.  The theory was put forth by Paleontologist Robert Bakker.  Digital painting done with Photoshop with an undersketch.

A few closeups of the piece which was designed to also be a cover illustration.  I enjoyed making this piece being its an iconic prehistoric beast....and it ate sharks!  Not just any sharks, sharks with giant poisoned stingers on their heads!  Yay science!
