Large scale armatures

I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips for structural design/ materials when building an armature for a large scale sculpture. I'm planning on building one for a life sized sculpt that will be probably be based off of the human form. I've made armatures for maquettes using armature wire, and the basic steel bar w/ a base flange for heads, but never anything life sized. My main concern is strength and adjustability while exploring the pose and form. Any tips (especially with photos) would be a huge help!

  • For mid sized projects I've used steel pipe and plumbing fittings.    If you need something more complex than your local hardware store plumbing section can provide, something like this might also work for you:   http://fitzkits.com/parts/

    Otherwise it's welding time.
