do you sculpt a mask for a animatronic puppet with the mouth open or closed?

i recently made a animatronic puppet and would like to give it skin. i want to sculpt a face and want to know should the mouth be opened or closed. thanks

  • I typically go with a mostly closed mouth.   I have it just open enough so I can sculpt the inside of the lips, so when molded/cast there is enough material on the skin to wrap over the underskull.

    How open your moth is depends on the character as well, and how you want the mouth to move/look.
