Seeking Advice for the Bare Basics
I'm an artist who takes animal bones and turns them into mythical creatures. An idea I had was to make a moveable European mount (neck and head) of a dragon using an alligator skull and a cow spine. Essentially I want the jaw to open and close, the head to swivel, and the neck to tilt up and down. But despite everything I've read or watched I still don't get where to place parts. I already have a printer for stuff, I just need to actually talk to someone who knows this stuff. So if anyone can help that would be wonderful. Because as much as I've tried I cannot understand where to place things. I know what I have to get, but not where it goes. I need someone to visually show me. If you want compensation for your time we can talk.

For movement, are you thinking animatronic or puppet? For both, one of the first things you can think about is weight. The lighter everything is, the easier it'll be to move. My second suggestion is to start small with prototypes, mocking up joints, linkages, etc., and testing movement. You can iterate designs much faster and cheaper at a small scale.
