Ultracal and Hydrocal discontinuation replacement options

Hi,

Are there classes on replacement materials for Ultracal and Hydrocal?  I'm seeing people talk about Fine Portland Cement and Plaster in 50/50 ratios and other materials I've never heard of.  Will SWSCA be adding any videos of good alternatives and their uses for those of us who use Ultracal and Hydrocal?

    We are keeping a close eye on things as the announcement from United States Gypsum rolls out.  Other companies will likely fill that void, but only time will tell.  As alternatives surface, we will evaluate things and make sure our students have everything they need.

    There are plenty of mold-making material alternatives out there, from fiberglass and resins to Portland cement, gypsum plaster/plaster of Paris, and dental stone.  What you choose will depend on what you are molding and any specific needs the project has.

    The general formula for Ultracal-30 is in its MSDS, and people have been making their own versions for years, so that will also likely continue.

    I have not ventured into fiberglass or resin moulds yet, mainly because of pricing.  Hopefully another company will fill the void since this like taking flour away from chefs, lol.  I will definitely be looking into making my own if possible.  If you decide to add a video about different methods of making it ourselves, I'm definitely interested in that.  Always good to have a contingency plan.
