Silicone Mask Making Part 1 Question

About two minutes into chapter four Andrew mentions you can glue down silicone masks with a variety of materials.  My question is in two parts. Can you use this technique repetitively for something like haunts?  How do you clean and remove the layers of glue to freshen up the mask for the next time around?

  • Yes, you can resuse silicone masks multiple times. Haunts are one of the most common use cases. I made myself a half-mask using the techniques from that lesson, so my mouth/chin and eyes aren't covered. I have been able to use the same piece several times now without any noticeable damage to it. Different adhesives remove differently. For example, Skinister medical adhesive can be purchased alongside its own remover by the same brand. Smooth-On Skin Tite adhesive is more like another type of silicone than it is a glue, and you can peel it off. I clean that off the mask with acetone usually, and then go back over it with rubbing alcohol. ProsAide will come off with its own remover, or with isopropyl myristate. You can remove most adhesives with myristate, honestly. Just look up what is recommended by the manufacturer of the adhesive you decide to use. I have used all three of the ones I listed with the same silicone mask.
