The following is the process and technique documentation of my attempt at an impersonation level cosplay and costume for Ron Swanson as played by Nick Offerman on Parks and Recreation. Here is one of my final poses in the meme below (I am the second photo):

    The costume consists of a tan London Fog overcoat, a brown Polo 2 button shirt, brown-gray slacks, a brown belt and a chrome buckle with the crowning piece being the coonskin cap.







    My coonskin cap is all faux leather so will not hold its shape and needed to have an insert placed to hold the side wall shape.

    The buttons on my purchased shirt were bright white so I covered them with furniture stain pen, in brown.

    The real work came in to achieve the incredible eyebrows. I tried two new products (to me) referred to as facelift tape:

    I needed to flare the nostrils but also to raise them while lowering the center ball. I used a mascara marker to blacken the lower 1/8 of my nostril. At ten feet it disappears and looks flared.

    I added the facial mole by applying one drop of dermaflage. This is silicone color-matched to my skin tone. Wonderful product that mixes the silicone two parts in a single syringe unit.





    After waiting for this to harden, I added the dark brown center with mascara.

    I purchased a faux mustache and trimmed it to the appropriate shape and then wet it and combed it to shape. I finished wirh a curling iron before applying the mustache with Pros-aide. I trimmed away the extra lace around the top, after taking the photo below.

    I put one image into my facial comparison app and it came back at 95 percent which is a strong indicator that the computer thinks it is the same person in both pictures. 95 is an incredibly high likeness level. As a test, I placed two pictures of the actor into the app instead of one of me and one of him. I made sure they were not the same angle so it would have to see the difference. The number was lower at 93 percent likeness.

    But, my real breakthrough and learning experience was modifying my face with the prosthetic tapes. With the forehead, the tape pulled  BUT with the ears, I needed them to protrude because Nick's earlobe is slightly larger than mine and slightly more away from the skull.

    I came up with a neat trick using nasal breathrite strips backwards, behind the ear:

    I have been having a blast sharing this build with my friends and family. I show them my, "challenge accepted", meme and they say, "Oh, cool, are you going to do a Ron Swanson costume? Good luck on getting those brows and mustache." And then I ask them to look back at the meme and show them the white sheet in the background..... "That's me"
