Translucent resin

Was wondering if someone could recommend a good translucent casting resin to make claws. Tom Spina has a picture of the Wolfman claws they made and said they were made from translucent resin. I asked them, but didn’t hear back. Attached is a picture from Tom’s website.

Also, how would I go about getting that color separation?
Thank you 👍🏻

  • One option would be something like Crystal Clear from Smooth-On https://www.smooth-on.com/product-line/crystal-clear/

For the color separation, that could be a slow buildup of translucent airbrush paints, built up layer by layer.  I'm not sure how Tom and his team did it, though.  They do look awesome!

  • I am dittoing Chris. Good brand and fits the use case. As for color, I think the base was not perfectly clear but was the color of the claw tips all the way through and then brushed over. It is doable on complete clear as well though with one base coat over the entirety and then layering brush stroke from claw base to claw tip in ever shorter layers. That would create the dark base with graduation to nearly clear. I don't see an "only clear" anywhere so I am still voting colored acrylic before pour then brushed.
  • Thanks Chris and Darrell!
