How to Avoid sweating inside a silicone suit so that the actor is very comfortable

Hi,

I have created a silicone suit which is more like a wearable pant . The silicone is fused to the spandex suit . What I am worried about is the actor sweating inside . Are there any tips to avoid rashes and a way to make the sweat exit out. It would be very kind of you to help out.

  • Hi Rajiv,

Trapping sweat can be a big challenge with bodysuits and makeups.  Having the performer wear fabric that wicks moisture away can help, but that only works if the fabric can be exposed to air to allow the moisture to leave.

Cool suits can be used under the bodysuit to help cool the performer cool and sweating less, but those come with their own challenges.  Sometimes they'll need to be tethered to a cooling unit for models that cycle cooling fluid.  Other cool suits rely on pockets that contain small ice packs that need to be replaced from time to time.  Those can also make the performer quite cold at first, which can be a concern.

If there are areas where moisture pools you can add a small hole to allow it to drip out or be released by someone from time to time.

Rashes need to be addressed on a case by case basis.  If they are caused by rubbing you can use protective clothing or even a silicone lubricant.  For moisture-related rashes, you'll want to do everything you can to keep the performer as dry as possible and let them take breaks out of the suit to dry off or to change their undersuit to a dry one.  Though that is not always an option.

Depending on the nature of the suit you can also force air into it which will help remove moisture.  This can be done with fans or a low-pressure air compressor.    This can be done during breaks.

    Best of luck!
