Silicone mask breakdown/turning to goo

edited April 2022 in General
Hi,

A friend brought a silicone mask to me that is turning to goo where teeth and an eye were placed.  The entire mask is very sticky.  Is there a way to repair this?

Just for the record, I didn't make this mask.  It was one he bought at a horror convention.  He's just hoping I can fix it.  Any advice or information would greatly appreciated.  I have some ideas but would love any insight you may have.

Thank you.

  • It could be some type of oil contamination, or if it was sticky from the first day it's possible it did not cure properly.

I suggest cleaning the mask, based on the manufacturer's recommended cleaning instructions.  If it is still sticky, a little bit of baby powder could help.  I suggest they talk directly with the manufacturer though.
