WED Clay advice?

I've been using chavant, monster and other oil based clays, and while I've used some air drying clay it tended to never be as good. I bought some WED clay but both bags are absolutely covered in mold, I took a slice into one and it doesn't go too deep, I have no clue whether It would still be as useable, if there is any way to treat it to make it useable, or to just call the warehouse I bought it from to get a refund. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Shane,

Mold on water-based clays is not uncommon, since they have to be kept damp.

When the mold begins to grow in the bag or bucket (causing discolorations), you can spray the outer surface of the clay with bleach-water (1/4 cup per gallon of water up to 1 part bleach to 9 parts water) to kill the surface mold. Usually, the mold won't have grown down into the clay too much.

Here's a more in-depth article on the subject:

    Hope that helps!
