Lystrosaurus

Lystrosaurus is a therapside from the Triassic period. I had the chance to sketch an original skeleton up close and take many photos of it.
Later at home I decided to build a small maquette. My main concern was to create a believable representation with personality.
Since theapsids are a hybrid between mammal and reptile, I decided to make it with hairless skin and based it on research material of hippos and elephants.
The materials are thick and thin aluminum wire and monster clay.
Again, the goal is to later cast the maquette in plaster and add natural painting.
