Demon mask.
in General
Hello,
I have a potential client wanting a demon mask for a short film. I’m thinking the budget might be low for a silicone mask, so I’m curious, since I don’t have a foam oven, could flexible poly foam be used as the mask material, and still be safe for the actor? If possible, what supplier is recommended? I normally use smooth on or monster makers due to location. Thanks for any help you might offer. Thanks!

Chris Ellerby AdminHi John,
Polyfoam can be used for a full mask, but it does not have the same stretch and flexibility as foam latex. Smooth-On has a few different formulas you can try. They also have a silicone foam called Soma Foam, though that is usually encapsulated in a skin of silicone as well. It does provide lighter weight and reduced cost over solid silicone though. Silicone masks are often solid silicone for durability as well since silicone foam is more prone to tearing.
If the performance does not need much facial movement you could manage with polyfoam.
