Silicone casting

Hi I’m currently working on a chimp sculpture that in the near future would like to turn into silicone hair punch etc...
I’m having a bit of trouble with what to make the mold out of, I’ve watched the brilliant video on here about making an epoxy mold with fiber glass but I’m looking for other options I want it to pick up all the little details but don’t need it to last a lifetime any help would be appreciated
thanks

  • Hi Jay,

One option is a stone mold, like ultracal 30, which could be used to make a 2 or 3 piece mold for a sculpt such as this.  Stone molds are rather inexpensive but can be a bit heavy and brittle.

Epoxy/resin molds are a bit more expensive, but also durable and light.
