You can use acrylics, skin illustrator, etc. to paint on a latex mask, but keeping flexibility is key so you don't get cracking or faking. Sealing them is also key, so they don't rub off.
You should be able to use the Night Shades paints without getting a bumpy surface. How are you applying them? Are they a bit older/dried out?
