White residue on Monster clay

Hi all, I’ve recently started using Monster clay hard and so far have really enjoyed working with it. My only issue I’m having so far is when I use 99 isopropyl alcohol to smooth it leaves a heavy white residue on the surface. Has anybody else had this issue?

The monster makers website has Isopropyl Myristate for smoothing but can I expect the same thing?

thanks

  • Hi Phil,

The white residue on the surface is normal.   That is caused by the solvent breaking down the clay.  It can be washed off or melted off with a little heat.  I use an alcohol dental torch or a heat gun.

I've not used isopropyl myristate on it yet, so I'm not sure how it would react.  My guess is that it would remove the white residue.
