Help, clay doesn't get out of the mold...
I made a plaster mold (one piece) of a sculpted face I did but now the clay won't get out off the mold. Before molding I sprayed the clay with a protective coat because I want to make a silicone cast later.
I already removed most of the clay but it still sticks to the details tenacious and I don't won't to break them.
I've already tried to scrape and scratch it out with toothpicks and brushes, heated and cooled it but nothing really works.
Here are the materials I used:
Clay (Chavant Le Beau Touché)
Plaster (Herculite 2)
Protective coat (Kryolan Fixing Spray)
I am now trying to remove the rest with solvent but I would be very happy if someone could tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it next time
Thank you very much
Kind regards,
Laurence

Chris Ellerby AdminYou may need to use some solvents then. Any paint thinner that works for oil based paints will work. Naphthalene, Mineral Spirits, Lighter Fluid, Turpentine, etc. It will get messy, but that's a good way to get that last little stubborn bit of clay out of the mold.
I talk about my process a bit in this post:

Hard to know what may have made this difficult for you. Could be the temperature of the clay when you tried to demold it, could be the surface coating.
