Prosthetic makeup curiosity

I just have a question,  I read in a makeup book that you can use flexible polyfoam, encased in latex, for appliances.  I am curious if anyone has heard of this being done,  how safe it is to do,  etc?  Thanks

It all depends on the appliance.  Polyfoam is not as flexible as foam latex, silicone, or gelatin, so it will restrict motion more.  In terms of safety your main issue would be if the subject has a latex allergy.
