A Masters of the Universe Halloween!
This year our family Halloween theme was Masters of the Universe. I had just about every figure when I was a kid, and with the new movie coming out, the kids have really gotten into it as well. Our two big builds were my son as "Man-E-Faces" and myself as "Stinkor". My wife and daughter were a little more paired down (and comfortable) as "Evil-Lyn" and the "Sorceress". We tried to do our own take on all these characters, while still honoring the originals. I have always been interested in Deborah Galvez's fur/flocking tutorial and thought this could be a good opportunity to try out some of those techniques with my Stinkor character. I don't have very much experience with fur/hair and the Stan Winston School videos were an incredible help. I referenced Amy Whetsel and Dawn Dininger's costume basics, and Ted Haines muscle suit fabrication to build my muscle suit and skin it with NFT fur. To my surprise, flocking my Stinkor mask worked out great with an inexpensive flocking gun from amazon. I'm gonna flock everything now. I also checked out several of the eye making tutorials and really liked the recent Rob Hinderstein oversized eye one, that I referenced to make the eyes. For my son's Man-E-Faces costume, I 3d modelled all the parts from scratch over his body scan. We went through several iterations to correct proportions and make sure he could move well enough. His helmet rotated with a lever that would reveal a robot, a monster, and his human face. He was a big hit at school. I used several of Rob Ramsdell's metallic paint techniques for the paint job of the armor. Please ask any questions you might have, and thanks for looking! And thank you as always to the Stan Winston School for their incredible tutorials!!!
