Chicago liberty-the golem that protects its citizens

This costume has been thrown through the wringer, between pepper spray and the blitz I still have it. It’s stuffed with details my tiny camera doesn’t do justice for a moment.

Photos have a thousand words yet It doesn’t show hours consoling community members, tense moments at protests defused, and gatherings to protect each other.from ice whom tried to come and kidnap people from Logan Square.

As my body has grew  more disabled, i realized i could no longer physically function well enough to protest in person. I realized i needed to retire, at least the costume. It felt deeply wrong to throw away a costume that had confronted ice, consoled comunity members, caused the right kinds of ruckus. In my search to find the right ways to treat my costume. I still have it. Just not the strength to wear it physically much beyond a single day.

My spoons!🥄

I love my community deeply. It’s been to the largest no kings protest in history, then the next then the next. It’s been at the Broadview concentration camp. If my body didn’t fail me I would do so much more, & I still am trying to make the world better, but the stronger folks have mostly been able to handle bike patrols.

I’ll still make art, I’ll still phone bank for non-apack anti palistinan genocide candidates,

I didn’t make it for holloween i made it to inspire and raise spirits and it did.

It also spooked a lot of people afraid of weeping angels 😇 oops my bad whovians.

I’m Dusty Dunner. He/they. 23

I’ve lived in Chicago approximately 6 years.
In a way this city has saved my life. I was dragged here from one terrible situation into another. If it wasn’t for the life long residents who took a chance on being my friend and helping me escape life long mental & physical abuse I may not have lived or survived the last three administrations.
