John Daruma - Misfortune Salesman

My Halloween Costume for this year is "John Daruma" he's an original creation inspired by the Japanese Good luck doll, just amplifying the creep factor up by 10x by making the doll's head an old man's face who has been shoved inside the doll. He's meant to be a bit of a bad omen if you see him, a salesman of misfortune. I took heavy inspiration from the Daruma doll in "As the god's will" with a lot of random creative liberties added for the love of the game.

John Daruma was initially made off of a 3D sculpt in blender, The body was a raw 3D print that I added texture paste onto to give the effect of old weathered paint, along with lots of washes and grime. His face was also sculpted in blender and off of that I created a 3D printed mold that I cast silicone into. The mold was a push mold so I could create a 3mm skin around a buck to save on silicone. I then cut out his eye holes and resin printed eyes to go in the inserts! Finally I used an old man wig I had lying around and punched all his eyebrow and mustache hairs.

This was by far one of my favorite costumes to make, and my first real dive into molding and casting using silicone. Super happy with how he turned out and the reactions I get off of people when I walk past are priceless!
