Scary Snowman — A Handmade Costume That Comes to Life
I'm Jay Karl, creator of Scary Snowman. This is my handmade wearable Snowman costume, featured in my Scary Snowman videos.
I built the costume using insulation foam and a chicken-wire body. The build took roughly four days.
The design combines a large, stacked snowman silhouette with a rough, snow-like white surface. A carrot-shaped nose, dark angled eyes, a coal-like smile and buttons, a black top hat, and a dark scarf make the character recognizable at a glance.
The performance is part of the character: an apparently inanimate snowman decoration suddenly becomes a moving performer. The costume conceals the person inside, so stillness followed by movement creates the surprise. That contrast between a familiar winter decoration and an unexpected scare is the idea behind Scary Snowman.
