Cuca — A Glamorous Witch from Brazilian Folklore

Hello everyone! I’m César Sana, a special effects makeup artist from Brazil, and this is my interpretation of Cuca, a witch from Brazilian folklore.
My inspiration comes from Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato’s stories and especially the 2001 version of Globo’s Sítio do Picapau Amarelo—an alligator-like witch with the glamour and attitude of a true diva!
I made all the prosthetics myself using foam latex, putting into practice many things I learned from Stan Winston School’s classes.
Specialized FX materials are difficult to access in Brazil, and importing them can be expensive. Bringing Cuca to life was both a creative challenge and a chance to share a piece of Brazilian culture with this community.
Character inspiration credits: Brazilian folklore, Monteiro Lobato, and Globo’s 2001 Sítio do Picapau Amarelo.
