Sculpting over a Fiberglass underskull?
in Sculpture
A few years ago I obtained a complete gorilla suit made by Howard Berger for an unmade TV show called Primate.
The suit included two heads and underskulls but the foam latex has disintegrated. The underskulls are WONDERFUL and I’d hate for them not to be used. I decided to try and sculpt a new head over the underskull that fits me perfectly.
I’m assuming I just wrap the skull in cellophane, sculpt, then mold as usual? Here are pictures of the underskulls:

Your idea of wrapping the underskull in cellophane and sculpting over it should work, as long as the underskull does not deform under the weight/pressure of the clay. Getting the articulation points working with your final casting may be a bit of a challenge, but I look forward to seeing your results!
