Can 3M Super 77 seal Upholstery foam?

I purchased some 3M Super 77 to seal upholstery foam. The lessons I watched used 74 but is is expensive. Is 3M super 77 a usable alternative?

  • 74 is formulated to work with foam, so it ends up more flexible and has less aggressive solvents so it is more friendly with some varieties of foam like polystyrene or EPS.  For upholstery foam, the solvents in 77 should not be an issue, but it is recommended to spray from 10-12 inches away to help the solvents flash off faster.

77 will work, just not quite as well as 74.  Give it a shot, and if you are concerned, test it on some scrap foam and see how you like the results.
