Four-legged animal puppet worn by a single operator. Best options?
in Puppets
Trying to plan out a design of a four-legged creature that 1) is purely mechanical, 2) keeps the operator's hands free, and 3) adds an alternating gait to the legs (so moving the back left leg also moves the front right leg, etc.).
Best option so far seems to be a Jansen linkage setup, but it doesn't seem like they're meant to be powered from the central crank, not from the feet (ideal here would be the operator is strapped into one set of feet, and walking causes the other feet to move). It's also fairly complex and bulky, which creates its own potential issues.
Are there any tried and true tricks for designing puppet mechanics like this, or am I on the best track?
