Devilman (1972 anime)
This cosplay is built primarily using paper for the hard pieces(mask, headpiece, breastplate, wings) and fabric for the rest.
During the prep stage of the build, it was decided to split the head into a headpiece and face mask to ensure ease of wear while maintaining as close a fit as possible.

The mask was built from different features kitbashed from several 3d models. These parts were unfolded in pepakura and put together with paper. Several layers of papier mache were done on the interior to strengthen the shape.
All the features were consolidated and the mask made to resemble the character through sculpting using a mix of cotton wool and PVA glue. The mask was then painted with several layers of paint made by mixing food coloring with glue in order to get the feel of skin layering
For the horned part of the head, it was decided to give it a mix of an organic look, appearing both fleshy and insectoid.

Several parts were blended together; antennae from Kamen rider, winged pieces from wolverine, ears from year one Catwoman and a modified helmet base, all sized appropriately.
Layers of papier mache and sculpting were done to get the ideal strength, shape and texture. Layers of painting were then done and the different coloured parts were given different finishes. Specks of charcoal were added into the paint in the dark parts in order to get a speckled, otherworldly sparkle.
The breastplate and wings were patterned in pepakura as well, modified from Marvel's Penance armor and Devil Jin wings respectively.
Papier mache and sculpting was done to get the appropriate look. The breastplate was covered in textured fabric.
The wings were attached to a harness made with fleece fabric using epoxy. Straps with parachute clips were sewn to the front of the harness soso that the breastplate would be attached to it.
