Feathertail Dragon- Life size
A baby feathertail dragon inspired by one of the dragons in "Fourth Wing" book series written by Rebecca Yarros.

While the author gives enough description to start, color + size, it leaves a lot to your own imagination.

Andarna (dragon) is a very small, very rare golden dragon. She's known as a "Feathertail" who will eventually later on transform into a very different type of dragon. This is my first sculpt and first suit so I wanted to start with Andarna first since she is..a baby. Even at 6ft tall.
Keeping in mind she's essentially a Hatchling, my idea was to carry that softness in feathers throughout the body scales. Almost like her scales are still soft and not quite set yet.
I created this look from start to finish. From sculpting, to making the costume that included wings and feet, I carried it through to application on my absolutely lovely model who had a blast crawling around in it!
I used monster clay in medium for the sculpting of the hands and face. Smooth on products for all the molding. The suit/wings are made from a few different fabrics. Dragon feet had clear heels as a base and then air dry foam wrapped around to help get the shape.
I'm currently almost done with the NEXT dragon in my dragon series and will continue on so that all 7 breeds are done. It's been a BLAST creating these creatures! I've learned an incredible amount over these last few weeks.
While I crafted this dragon, Andarna was brought to life by my model (Betty) and photographer (Gina) . I couldn't have completed the process without them!
