Having perished of exposure while hiking in the snowy mountains, Frieda exacts returns for revenge, freezing the breath of her former comrades who abandoned her. Her frozen heart, icicle fingers, and frostbitten features are enough to stop anyone cold in their tracks. (see last 2 pics for more backstory)

I sculpted Frieda from a single 4000lb block of natural ice in Fairbanks Alaska this past February 2025. This was my first time sculpting in ice and my first time competing on an international level. I am a professional pumpkin carver and specialty costumer for film and television so this was quite a departure for me. Half way through the first day of the three day Single Block competition, my block cracked in half and I had to re-attach the torso with the help of a hydraulic lift. This sculpture was made using chisels and die grinders with only water and slush as "glue" to hold the pieces together. Ice is such an incredible medium to work with as it is dangerously heavy, surprisingly soft to carve, and fragile enough to shatter like glass with mere vibrations. It has such presence when lit just right and it's magic is that it can melt out of existence in just a few short hours if the temperatures rise.

Getting the features roughed inDay three: I could have happily worked for another day just to refine the body but there's only thin you can make a top heavy ice sculpture without risking catastrophic failure. I was fighting the clock, physics, and the elements! Interestingly enough, ice doesn't convey details as well as other mediums because it relies so much on light so I had to focus more on the forms and less on the cool and creepy "frostbite" textures I had planned.Frieda's arms were made from two smaller blocks I cut off the main piece. They were shaped individually and then fused to the body as the last step so I wouldn't have to worry about accidentally standing up into them and breaking the fingers off.Cutting through the space between her legs was the scariest. She had already fallen once. I didn't want to be underneath her if she fell again.

Using a Japanese hole saw to sculpt some anatomy on her back. This was actually my favourite part of the pieceBlocking out her torso, her legs still solid ice

Day two after the crane hoisted her torso back on and I fused it with water and slushMy ice block cracking in half on day one because of a natural fault in the ice.Hand drawn templates  4000lb block of ice before carving - Day one of the three day ice sculpting competitionThe original Frieda Frostbite as seen on Episode 3 of Halloween Wars All Stars on the Food Network 2024

Frieda's body was sculpted out of cake and rice cereal by baker Kyle Miller with eyes, fingers, and a heart made of Isomalt by sugar artist Sarah Arnold. Sculpted pumpkin elements, paint job, and concept by me: Sarah "Bloodstain" Blostein.

Fire ended Freddy's life
So he returned to haunt in dreams
Frieda froze to death in fright
And now she's back to steal your screams
Winter has a vicious bite
Revenge best served at 10 degrees

One Two Frieda's coming for you!
