The Picture Of Dorian Gray (1945) - Basil Gogos styled character bust
This is a foam filled display bust that I made based on the title character from the movie The Picture Of Dorian Gray that was made in 1945. I saw the cover of an old issue of Famous Monsters Of Film Land with the cover art painting by Basil Gogos of the title character Dorian Gray, and I decided to sculpt the character in the Gogos style but also paint it in the Gogos style as well.
I foam filled the latex casting and then haired it to look as close as possible to the painting on the cover of the magazine. I've included pictures of the finished piece, the magazine cover with the original painting and also a picture of the foam filled bust before I did any of the paint or hair.
