Alien couch monster
I had an opportunity to creat a human eating couch monster for a friend’s film. I gutted out a couch we got for free on Facebook marketplace. We used a lit of old practical effect techniques including a scene inspired by I believe “The Blob” and a lot of reverse shots. I sewed on some painted fleshy fabric to the underside of the cushions and did all the movement from a slot in the back using some wood and metal planks. I made a few tentacles out of some old shoes laces, rope and caulking silicone, which I was able to make moldable in a dawn dish soap mixture. I made one of the tentacles into a stiff camera mount with a painted chopstick. I made my own blood with a corn syrup, dawn dish soap, and food coloring mix. I also made a gross “acid” spit ball and sticky “saliva” out of a regular slime mix, glue, borax, and water. But I was able to make it more liquidy with vinegar.
An added factor was in all I used about 45$ to make this whole thing. So its not super crazy but its what I could do with the budget I had.
There are some tracking pieces and marks because in the final cut we had another person do some digital effects!
