Silicone Mask Paint Theory True or False Help

I have read AI Google answer results that say you can use OIL-BASED paints mixed with the silicone to concoct a silicone-based mask/prop paint. And I have seen a video of a guy who painted a silicone Freddy Krueger mask using 100% silicone CAULKING as the paint's base and oil-based paints thinned with mineral spirits. Will these "theorized methods" work well? I've never tried these methods before, and I wondered if it would be.....Healthy to use for painting silicone masks or even good for tinting the mask-making silicone itself. And I was trying to work around having to pay $34.42 for a Silc-Pig kit by Smooth-On. If someone can help shed light on this subject, it would be very much appreciated. Thank You.

  • Yes, you can mix oil paints with 100% silicone caulking, and thin it with Naptha or similar solvent to create your own silicone paints.  The solvents are not exactly what I would call healthy, but you can replace the Naptha with a product like NOVICS from Smooth-On, which is safer.

When it comes to tinting a two-part silicone, I would lean more towards using a pigment like Silc-Pig, but that's just personal preference. Your mileage may vary.
