Silicone caulking not binding paint to silicone

Hey all,
Has anyone else been experiencing issues with the tried and true method of thinning silicone caulk for binding paint to silicone pieces? It suddenly just stopped working in the shop I'm at. I work with some industry vets who have been doing it the same way for years, and it stopped working with their technique as well. We've tried every kind of silicone caulking available at any given hardware store and nothing works anymore. SmoothOn Silpoxy works fine as a binder, but it's a steep price increase.
