Realistic Gloves

Good evening,
I have hit a snag with making realistic monster gloves that fit the hands and forearms like a second skin. Now, I know how to fabricate them, but the problem is pulling them off the armatures I built them on. I have made two attempts. The first was building my own plaster armatures.
That ended up with my plaster armatures being destroyed to get the gloves off. The second attempt ended in total disaster. So my question is if I should build a second pair of armatures using the TC266 foam, since it’s got give to it and that I may be able to maneuver the thumb and fingers out of the gloves, to where I will still have hand and arm armatures to build more gloves on.
The materials I’m using is rubber dish gloves, cargo mesh, Halloween cloth gloves make for a tighter fit and replaces the fingers of the dish gloves and mask making latex.
Thanks and I hope you guys may have some solutions.

Are the armatures for the fingers just to space out the fingers of the gloves while you work on texturing and painting them?

If so, what you could make the armatures from is EVA foam - the same sorta foam that they use as excersise floor mats. You should be able to get them quite cheaply at a hardware store. You can cut, glue and sand them to shape, and will still be flexible. If you needed to pose them, you could layer some foam around some armature wire, which will allow you to bend it and keep its shape. You can also heat form EVA foam to curve it and retain its shape.

You could also use a dense upholstery foam, though it may not be stiff enough for your needs.

Curious to see what the gloves are for!
  • Good morning Alexander,
thank you for the information. Yes, the armatures were used to keep form of the left and right hands and the forearms so that I could accurately place the knuckles, veins, palm lines, finger lines and the lines around where the finger nails would be placed. The gloves are to go with a special effect mask I made. I want to do my own line of characters to sell as well as do my own horror series.
The mask is made to snap back on to the face to move the facial features and mouth. The eyes placed are to further the effect of the mask. The person wearing the mask can see through the eyes, but the person looking at them will only see the eyes of the mask the actor is wearing.
  • One thing that can help with hand mold cores is to make the thumb portion removable, and have it secured in place with magnets.  Then you can pull the hand out, and the thumb portion will be left inside, and it can be easily removed on its own.
