Restoring Animatronics?
CEC
✭
My 15 y/o son has always been interested in animatronics, specifically the Rock-A-Fire Band and Chuck E Cheese. He recently acquired one of these animatronics and is attempting to restore it. He has the pneumatic cylinders for the neck, however he needs to replace the neck mechanism. Would this website a place that he could benefit from in this endeavor? I would love to see him be able to get his animatronic restored and I would love to find some classes or someone who could mentor him to encourage/support this interest and take it to another level as well. If I am on the wrong track with this site, could someone recommend one more appropriate? Thank you

That would be a good starting point for your son. It is worth noting that we don't cover pneumatic animatronics like those used for Rock-A-Fire or Chuck E Cheese. We feature mostly cable-driven and/or servo-driven animatronics. That said, many of the linkages and mechanical design principles are the same.
If your son has an interest in the subject of animatronics and wants to dive deeper into that world, learning about servo and microcontroller-based animatronics would be helpful.
We don't offer mentorships, but we do have these forums where our students can get support with the course material or their own projects.
