Traditional Matte Painting

I was wondering if there are any resources or tutorials out there on the process used for traditional matte painting, either on glass or masonite?  Some incredible artists worked on these throughout the years, would be amazing to see and hear the techniques and processes that were used to create some of these.

    I'm unaware of any tutorials on this subject.  Glass matte painting was always a very specialized art form and not very widely discussed outside the groups of artists who were doing it.   Most of what I've seen is behind-the-scenes content talking about its use in past movies, rather than educational or instructional material on the subject.    Here's a sample of what's on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=glass+matte+painting
