Just monkeying around
This last November at a local convention I, A.G.Howard, had the privilege of sculpting, casting and applying this 1968 version of P.O.T.A. makeup onto Christie Carnell.
This was all done in an "old fashioned" technique - clay sculpt, plaster casting, and straight latex rubber. I then airbrushed and added hair.
I know I missed the Kim Hunter look, but Christie did such a great job acting, I couldn't be sad. The awesome costume was made by my friend, Mandi George - it made the look complete.
There is video on my Facebook page.
Thanks for this opportunity.

Dwarf Warrior 'Tawhl' - Fantasy character
Over the last 10 months, I have learnt the ropes of prosthetic making. From character design, sculpting, casting, drafting, running to organising a photoshoot to show off my work. I learnt how to postiche a beard, style a wig and sew a pleat skirt (aka kilt). It also was my first time working with foam to create the hammer prop and the armour for my character. It has been an amazing journey, with lot's of laughter, tears and hang wringing and I am very proud of the end result.
Both face and ear prosthetics are run in gelatin and pre painted and hair punched.

Re: Foam Hand Puppet - But Make It Slimy?
Hi Rupine,
There are a few ways to make the puppet appear wet, depending on your needs.
For rigid areas like eyes, teeth, etc. where flexing is not needed you can brush on a 2 part clear epoxy. Just make sure whatever brand you get does not dry with a yellow tint to it.
For areas that need to flex, you can use a flexible varnish. I usually use Liquitex flexible acrylic gloss varnish.
And if you need a lot of movement, or want to build up a lot of thickness to make something feel slimy, drippy, gloopy, etc. you can use a glossy clear silicone.

Experiment gone wrong
For this look I pretty much used what I had laying around the house. The blood is a pint of blood from like the Halloween stores. As for the texture and skin I used paper towels and tissue. To get everything to stick I used Ben Nye Spirit Gum.
I titled it Experiment gone wrong because I was portraying a scientist trying to conduct a very important experiment that ended up going horribly wrong. My face ended up getting burnt due to the chemicals I accidentally mixed exploded.

Re: Life-size head bust armature question.
As new sculptor i always recommend the pole, its harder takes longer and is less forgiving but it teaches you core skills and will lock in your skill and ability

Re: Life-size head bust armature question.
It all depends on what you want to sculpt.
If you are going to add to the human form, an Ed-head is great.
But if you want to sculpt deeper and not be constrained by the human form, a custom armature is needed.
