I am wondering if there is a way to make a "universal" one size fits everybody type of head form that is made in making Star Wars Wookie characters? I'm not wanting to make Wookies of course but want to learn the process of how they do the head form where the mouth moves

  • Hi James,

Can you explain a bit more about what your goals are?   By head form do you mean a type of underskull for a mask that is articulated to move the mouth?

Our "Articulated Mask Making on a Budget" course may help you there. https://www.stanwinstonschool.com/tutorials/articulated-mask-making-on-a-budget-part-1-lifecasting-sculpting-teeth

We also have a course coming out in the near future that will dive deeper into articulated masks.

  • Its more to creating a head shell to wear with a premade mask over it...like i stated the case of Wookie masks that have moveable mouths..
  • I basically want to convert my Harry and the Hendersons sculpt into a fully articulated mask
  • Our upcoming course on articulated masks should help a lot there.  I don't have a release date on it yet, but it's in the works!  Having seen some of the live stream, it's a course I'm very excited to watch as well.

Otherwise, our courses that cover mask making, vacuum forming, fiberglass underskulls, and mechanics can still help you.  Our animatronics courses cover a lot of that.  In your case, you just don't need the electronics, but many of the materials and techniques still apply.

  • Please be sure to tag me in the release of that course..its basically making the same type of undershell and rigging Kevin wore when he donned the Harry mask for the movie
