Silicone painting question

Hello! I am replicating the flesh jigsaw puzzle piece from the film Saw and have a question about paint.

My casting is in platinum silicone that is tinted with smooth on flesh pigment. The piece is cast in a flat ultra cal mold. I have no issues painting the sculpted side with skin illustrators, where I’m running into issues is with painting the smooth backside of the piece. I want the back to be bloody in appearance (like it were actually carved away).
I’ve tried a couple different drying bloods like tinsley and narrative cosmetics alcohol blood, but they just bead up and rub off. I’m guessing my best bet is psycho paint, which I have tried and it works, but the smooth on blood pigment just isn’t bloody enough lol.
Can anyone give any recommendations or advice on what to pigment with and maybe a drying bloods that has a chance of actually sticking to the silicone? Appreciate any help!!

  • Try mixing Permablood with one side of the Psycho paint OR...a blood acrylic color...acrylic paint WILL mix with silicone

  • I used a ton of Tim Gores Bloodline/Lifeline paints in EVERYTHING id do..latex ...resin or silicone...the trick with silione is the proper balance of naptha to the mix

  • Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it! I’ll give the acrylics and permablood a try, see if I can get an acceptable color. Thanks!!
  • Update:
For anyone else who happens to encounter this particular problem, I found a relatively simple solution. I applied a thin coat of pros-aide to the unpainted smooth surface of the silicone and once it was tacky I painted on the alcohol based blood and voila, it spread well and didn’t bead up!
  • Glad you solved that puzzle!  (Sorry, could not resist)
