Fard Cream Alternatives?

What are some alternatives to Fard creams? The 36 color palette is $440! Skin Illustrator is expensive enough. Until I’m a working professional the Fard creams are out of my budget.

  • If you want to start out on the inexpensive side, you can work with creams from companies like Ben Nye.

Are these alcohol activated? I thought that’s what made products like Fard creamed and Skin Illustrator attractive.

  • No, if you want cheap it'll be regular cream makeup.  For alcohol activated your options are more limited.

I’m guessing Skin Illustrator would be my entry level option into alcohol activated makeup? Is the difference with Fard the amount of pigmentation and coverage you get out of it that makes it so expensive?
  • Skin Illustrator is a good option.  You can also get alcohol-activated palets from EBA, Graftobian, Ben Nye, and others.  You can shop around for deals and alternative brands if you like, just know that some brands may not work as well as others.

Yes, and granted there is going to be personal preference involved. Unfortunately shopping around can still be expensive. Do any of the suppliers offer samples or sample kits for purchase to try out the product before full on investing?

  • Hi Tim,

You may be able to get samples if you reach out to the manufacturer directly.   Some companies also offer smaller versions of their product that cost less. (like small or half palettes)   But a smaller Skin Illustrator palette will likely still cost more than a full-sized Ben Nye palette.
