Looking for suggestions

Hello my son is 8 and into building costumes. I want to be supportive please let me know what would help him best. I live on the east coast in NH, I'm looking for programs or general ideas of way to keep him growing his creativity. We recently got a 3d printer and printed a few mask pieces but we are held up on adding the motor. He usually uses craft supplies, cardboard, hot glue, paint, found recycled materials. Thanks for your suggestions

    The 3d printer is a great resource for cosplay, especially when paired with CAD and 3d modeling skills.  One suggestion would be to encourage them to start learning a CAD tool like Tinkercad https://www.tinkercad.com/ which is used a lot in STEAM education.  It's a good introduction to the world of CAD and can help him to make his own models to print.  Then as he grows older he can graduate to higher-level CAD programs like Fusion 360 or OnShape.  Tinkercad also has a lot of good online tutorials on YouTube, and their own website, including projects you can build with a 3d printer:  https://www.tinkercad.com/projects

    As 8 is still quite young, learning CAD might be something you do together to work on simple projects at first.

    The reason I suggest CAD is because that tool/skill is extremely valuable as an artist or cosplayer. It empowers you to work with 3d printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, and other tools that are becoming more commonplace.

    Otherwise, focusing on skills like foam fabrication, sewing, and painting would all be great.  We have a lot of classes that cover these skills, however at 8 they would be a bit advanced and require parental supervision and assistance.
