Re: What's On Your Workbench? (Spring 2023)
Been working on building a Velociraptor animatronic based on the ones featured in The Lost World. A college near me has a makers festival they do every November, I won last year with this project. I'm hoping to have most of the body built soon. Still been working on the mechanics but I'm getting there. (The picture I… -

Re: Help daughter wants to be taught skills to work in industry.
Some of the skills required for working in makeup effects can be learned locally at places like "The Art Institute" or a community college. I do know that some Art Institutes offer classes on special effects, which is a good starting point while looking into more industry-specific schools that are less likely to have a… -
Re: Preparing a Bid - How to Factor in shooting days (and if I should?)
Here's how I would do it. Since how many shoot days is unknown for you at the moment, I would list that part of your bid as a daily on-set rate for you and your team. IE: $xxxx.xx per shoot day. It might also be helpful to break down the per-day costs based on characters, so they can do the estimates on their end as well.… -

Bard the Bowman from The Hobbit - This build was only possible because of a temporary job in Salt Lake. Elk hides are abundant in the area and I was able to purchase a fully tanned hide for 100 dollars. I trimmed out arm holes and wore the entire pelt as a single piece coat. The arms, leg wraps and hand wraps are all scrap… -

Xytheria of the Fallen
Introducing Xytheria of the Fallen! Xytheria is a reinterpretation of the bible entry in Revelation 12: 7-6 which quotes: “Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down, and his… -
THE QUEEN OF ORCHIDS!!! //VIDEO INCLUDED// NEON MAKEUP @LAGARCESPOSADA Prostetics and makeup!!!
Hi my name is Laura Garces and this is my 1st entry for this contest. I´m from Colombia, and given that we have limited resources when it comes to FX makeup, I used some unconventional materials. I sculpted the face with clay on my face cast and then I made the mask with latex and polyurethane foam. You can watch the full… -
Sea Creature.
This application was made from a foam latex prosthetic piece, including individual teeth made out of easy-flow. I was inspired by the deep sea angler fish by its large mandible and vicious snarl, enhanced by its razor sharp teeth. From here my imagination took off. I decided to incorporate the classic colours of a great… -

Re: High Detail with Natural (water-based) Clays? Possible? If yes, How?
There are some great videos and tips on the Reynolds Advanced Materials site on casting in concrete. http://www.reynoldsam.com/application/concrete-casting/ As far as the clay goes, you may have better luck with something like WED clay, which is a water-based clay with additives to help slow drying.… -
Re: Single LED light hookup
For LEDs the power you supply to it and the resistor you put inline with it changes from LED to LED. Some even have the resistor built in so you don't need to calculate that. Re: Silicone Prosthetic Transfer Appliances: Age Makeup - Part 2 - (Free Chapter)
Hi David, For that I would recommend using a silicone adhesive like Telesis 5. Though that adhesive may be harder to find as it has been discontinued. An alternative that most makeup artists I know (including myself) have switched over to is Mouldlife's "Snappy G" adhesive. As you are planning on working around the mouth,…
